Some birds of springtime in New England 1) male cardinal 2) his mate in thicket below 3) breeding male house sparrow 4) mallard in sunset 5) redwinged blackbird 6) calling redwinged blackbird in reeds, which are home to the rwb. I think he's exemplifying the expression "red alert" - which he did when he saw me. One of the male's calls includes this full on puffing up of his red shoulders. I'm so happy I caught it in this photo. 7) the graceful heron in a sunset sky

During my voluntary isolation, which has now lasted 2 mos, I have enjoyed the entertainment of a family of squirrels living in a hollow tree knot across the street from my front door. I count 5 rambunctious youngsters. They are both neurotic and daring as they venture from their home, to date just dashing out briefly while clinging to the knot! I've never paid much attention to squirrels, but in this peculiar time of isolation this not so little family has endeared itself to me!

Looking out my kitchen window 50 years later, and thinking about the Kent State shooting, and the thousands of future sunny days those students lost in a moment of utterly unnecessary government strong arming.
