The Ripest Pics

Fly Me To The Moon – Supermoon (perigee-syzygy) and Jetliner

supermoon-with-jetliner
I took this photo of the supermoon on July 12 2014. I had no idea there was a jet crossing between the moon and me. It was a stunning surprise when I downloaded the images I took that night (this one at approximately 10:35 p.m.) just north of Boston, Massachusetts (and Logan Airport) and saw this jet in the photo. I had seen something cross the lens during one shot but I thought it was a mosquito caught in the lens hood. I took this photo with my Nikon D3200, handheld, 300mm, f/5.6, ISO 800, 1/1000. Some of you may have already seen this on my other sites, but I wanted to be sure to post it here, where I display my best photos.

    • Hi Kenn, Thanks so much. As I said to my son today, “I’m on a photo high!”
Yes, there was some “work” involved here – three nights trying to hold steady while batting away mosquitos and getting a good shot of the supermoon.
But the jet appearing was pure luck!
I suppose luck is more likely to appear the more time you put into your craft. Maybe. And in that, there’s “work.”
I’d been out to dinner with friends Saturday night. As I got out of my car I saw the stunning moon and thought I’d better just go into the house and get my camera and fire off some shots. So I did. I can’t say I was especially psyched to do so, but I knew that there might be clouds the next night. So, I put comfort aside and went outside with the mosquitos! I am so glad I went with that fraction of a second impulse at 10:30 to go out and see what I might capture with my camera. πŸ™‚
      Thanks again, Kenn.
      Mary
